Books
on audio-cassette: We stock a selection of classical and popular
literature which has been transferred onto audio cassette.
This means that visually impaired people can enjoy books even
if they find reading print, difficult or impossible. Most
of our stock is comprised of commercially available tapes
that have been donated to the association over the years.
You can find out about OAB's selection of audio-books by contacting
us.
Audio
books are also available in Oxfordshire County Council
Libraries, recorded on either cassette or CD. A larger
collection of spoken word material, including magazines and
information on tape, is available from Westgate library in
Oxford city. These items are issued free to visually impaired
people.
A
far wider selection of audio-cassette literature is available
from the CALIBRE cassette library. The
Calibre Audio Library is a registered UK charity, set
up in 1974 as Calibre Cassette Library. "Calibre
Audio Library improves the quality of life for people who
have sight problems or other disabilities, by bringing them
the pleasure of reading through a free nationwide postal service
of recorded books."
