OXFORD
ADVENTURE:
Some
of my best friends from Brookes climbing club have set up a climbing tutorial
business. They’re doing their best to bring climbing to the masses
in a fun and accessible way. They’ve given me a lot of support and
help, particularly in being my rope man (“belay”) whilst I climb
up and down in training. If you would like to start climbing or improve
an already competent technique, then they are worth checking out. Visit
their web
site!
OXFORD
BROOKES UNIVERSITY SU Climbing Club:
What
can I say, this is the fair society I considered my home when not studying
during university. They go on trips, climb twice weekly for free at Oxford
Brookes wall and have many a crazy outing. Social events in the past have
included a boat trip, paintball, laser quest and of course three legged
pub crawls. Both students and non-students are welcome. However, it does
cost a little more for non-students due to insurance reasons. Visit their
web
site!
OXFORD
BROOKES UNIVERSITY Sports - Rock Climbing:
This
is the place for my challenge. It’s a great wall with a high peak
and more than acceptable bouldering section. Bouldering is where the wall
only goes up 4m or so, this means you can gain confidence in climbing or
improve your technique. If you are keen to attempt a climb of the high section
(aka ‘The Tower’) then you have to be with someone who is utterly
confident in what they’re doing or take lessons beforehand. Visit
their web
site!
OAB
(Oxfordshire Association for the Blind):
The
reason for my vertical based insanity. OAB strive to improve the quality
of life for Oxfordshire’s partially sighted and blind community. They
care about what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. Simply
close your eyes for five minutes and think of how much you’d need
them. Visit their web
site!
