Colin Dexter OBE Appeal Champion
The Inspector Morse creator and local author, Colin Dexter OBE, knows only too well how challenging life can be with a visual impairment. Following tests in 2005, Colin discovered he was suffering from macular degeneration - Britain's leading cause of blindness – it is also the reason wy Mr Dexter is joining the Oxfordshire Association for the Blind’s (OAB) ‘Future Vision Appeal’.
Despite treatment, reading and writing became increasingly more difficult and he had to give up driving. At one point, he was all but blind in his left eye. Speaking about the impact the disease had on his life, Mr Dexter said: “I feel strongly that the greatest faculty God has given us is sight - and at that point, the fear of losing that gift was very real.”
